To keep the young ones happy we've devised a number of puzzle trails to follow around the nature trails, hunting for clues and filling in sheets as you go. These include: Bug Hunt: a puzzle booklet for the green route (1.75 miles). Hunt for the bug symbols and fill in your booklet, learning fun-facts about mini-beasts as you go. Costs £1.50 and includes a Cream o' Galloway pencil. Suitable for ages 4-9. Explorer Trail: a similar booklet, following the shorter red route (1 mile). Costs £1.50 and includes a Cream o' Galloway pencil. Suitable for ages 7-10. Orienteering: the orienteering map shows two routes around the wildlife lochans and a third around the cycle routes. Choose a simple route, roughly following the green trail or the bike route, or the trickier one which takes the intrepid explorer off-trail to nooks and crannies missed by most visitors. Follow the map to find the orienteering posts, note what is written on each and finally solve the secret code! Costs £1.50 and includes a Cream o' Galloway pencil. Suitable for ages 7+. Smugglers' Trail: Galloway was a haven for smugglers in days gone by, men who would secretly bring exotic goods into Scotland to sell on the black market. Imagine you are a modern-day smuggler, trying to evade capture with a booty of illegal ice cream! Follow the clues around the blue & gren trails (1.75 miles), fill the answers in on your sheet and discover the name of a famous Galloway smuggler. If all goes well, your reward is a free scoop of ice cream and a certificate! Costs £1.50 and includes a Cream o' Galloway pencil. Suitable for ages 4-14. |
