tractorandkids150.jpgWorking in partnership with Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) we have been able to open up our organic farm to visitors, provide nature trails for you to explore and give you a chance to discover the amazing wildlife found in our ponds.  To find out more about the work of SNH, go to www.snh.org.uk

bluehatboy150.jpgEvery day the visitor centre is open, staff are available to show you behind the scenes on the farm and the ice cream factory. We offer combined tickets allowing entry to the playground and an event.

Farm Tour

2.45pm to 4pm Daily 13th March to 31st October. See the dairy cows and their calves, visit the milking parlour and find out why we converted our farm to organic. The route is suitable for those with buggies or wheelchairs. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Ice Cream Experience

Starting at 1.30pm and lasting about 45 minutes. Taste a selection of scrumptious Cream o' Galloway ice creams & frozen yogurts and hear stories about their creation. From the viewing gallery overlooking our production area, you'll see the equipment used and learn about the process from raw ingredients to finished product.

(n.b. This event usually takes place in an upstairs room. If you would like to participate but are unable to climb stairs, please let us know in advance and we will arrange to hold the event in a downstairs room.)

Events 2010

Meet the Lambs  from Saturday 27th March until Sunday 18th April at noon, 1pm & 2pm

meet & cuddleYou can take a short walk down to the farm and meet some newborn lambs and, if you would like, you can even have a cuddle with one!  The route is suitable for buggies or wheelchairs.

gorseFamily Photo Safari  Thursday 15th April 10.30am - 3pm

Get to grips with your digital camera and explore the farm & nature trails learning new techniques as you go. Choose your favourite print to take home in a frame. Ideal for beginners, digital cameras essential, lunch not included. Cost is for one adult and one child working together. Minimum age 10.

Dawn Chorus Walk  Sunday 2nd May 4.30 - 8.30am

Starting as dawn breaks, explore the different habitats of Cream o' Galloway listening for the fabulous range of bird songs as the birds mark their territories and search for a mate. Back to the centre for a light breakfast.

Bird Calls for Beginners  Saturday 22nd May 10.00 - 12.00am

Find out how to tell the difference between the calls of a robin and a wren, a chaffinch and great tit plus many more wonderful bird songs on this easy walk around the trails at Cream o' Galloway. Ideal for beginners.

Bat Night  Wednesday 2nd June 8.30 - 10.30pm

Fun activities to find out more about bats followed by some bat spotting once it gets dark. Bring a torch and some warm clothes.

bug huntingHedgerow Safari  Thursday 3rd June 11am - 1pm

Search for small mammals in the hedgerow habitats of Cream o' Galloway and find out why the organic lands of Rainton Farm are so valuable, with staff from OMSCO, the Organic Milk Suppliers Cooperative.

tygerberg kids pond dipping

Pond Dipping  Tuesdays & Thursdays in July & August  12 - 1pm

Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the summer. Discover the underwater wonderland in Cream o’ Galloway’s purpose built wildlife pond. Learn about the amazing lives of the creatures who lurk there, and hunt for their cousins in the rocks and plants around the pond.

Grade: family  Cost: £2.50 per child (adults free!)

Ready Steady Freeze

Each Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in July and August starting at 4pm, finishing around 5.30pm. Use real Cream o' Galloway ingredients to make your own ice cream... and then eat it! £12 for two people working together, £15 for 3.

Gala Day Pondemonium!  Monday 26th July 12 - 3pm

pond dippingPond dipping and minibeast fun for the Gatehouse Gala festivities. Join in with pond dipping and minibeast crafts all day.
