Nature Trails
A quiet walk on a sunny day through spectacular scenery – nothing beats it. We have an incredibly beautiful natural environment at Cream o’ Galloway and we work hard to support it, so naturally we want our visitors to experience it and enjoy it too. We have a network of trails that will help you get close to the nature and the wildlife that have made their home at Cream o’ Galloway.
We have built four miles of nature trails, taking in two wildlife lochans, a wildlife hide, acres of young woodland and some stately ancient woodland too. Wildlife sightings along the trails have included fox, roe deer, dozens of dragonflies and butterflies, frogs and toads and almost 60 species of bird. Over one mile of the nature trails are buggy and wheelchair friendly.
There are a further 1 ½ miles of more rugged trails, leading through permanent pasture and the ancient woodland of the Glen. In springtime this offers the stunning spectacle of a carpet of bluebells, and in summer the woods reverberate with the calls of migrant warblers and songbirds and the rattle of woodpeckers. Red squirrels also put in an appearance, particularly in the autumn when they are so busy collecting hazelnuts they may not see you approaching!
The trails are as follows:
Purple trail: 1 ¼ miles (buggy friendly)
Green trail: 1 ¾ miles
Red trail: 1 mile
Blue trail: 2 miles
Dog Walk
Our ¾ mile long dog walk through some of our newly planted woodland is a great way for your faithful friends to stretch their legs. This area is fenced-in allowing dogs to run free while you enjoy the young ash, oak and crab-apple trees and the many birds and insects which thrive amongst them. If you're very lucky you may even spot one of our resident adders along here - unloved by some but very welcome here as they keep the tree-munching bank-voles at bay!
